5 Element Acupuncture

Melissa attended SUNY Plattsburgh, NY and received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology followed by her first Master's degree from Syracuse University, NY in Marriage & Family Therapy. Melissa worked for 12 years in Middlebury, VT supporting adults and teens with mental health issues. The teens she worked with at Middlebury Union High School inspired her to return to school and achieve a second Master's in Five Element Acupuncture from The Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in Gainesville, FL. She also holds a Certificate in Chinese Herbal Studies. She's a licensed acupuncturist in NY, VT and FL and holds a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine. Melissa brings her education from both worlds to help people reconnect to their joy and passion. She is also a self-defined "foodie" and is a passionate supporter of local farmers and their organic food. She believes food is medicine and is excited to share her knowledge with others.

A Message from Melissa:

My name is Melissa Maki, LAc, AP, DOM, and I'm a licensed Five Element Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbal Practitioner.  Before this career I worked for 15 years using my Marriage & Family Therapy degree in the mental health arena.  I've worked with thousands of people over the years, listening to what they want, where they get stuck, and how they feel.  I've heard amazing stories of success and have been privileged to watch many people make positive, solid change in their life.  There is nothing more inspiring for me than to witness people thriving!

As the 5 Seasons Diet provides you with a meal & wellness plan for the months of each season, I will be providing you with information on Five Element Acupuncture.  I find this medicine fascinating and I'm passionately in love with it!  My hope is by sharing some of my knowledge with you, it will provide insight and resources that you can use to help keep yourself on a path of wellness and joy.

In brief, Five Element Acupuncture treats on the level of mind, body, and spirit. It believes that we are energetically connected to our environment and what is happening seasonally.  This can influence our moods, what we focus on and how we feel during each season.  I'll be providing education on this ancient form of medicine through your journey to support your eating and health changes.
